Make a Group on Facebook
To make a group on Facebook, make that sure you are on the home page of Facebook. Click the Home tab on the top of the screen if you are not. On the left of the screen under the thumbnail of your picture is a list. Under News Feed, Messages, Events, and Friends will be the option Create Group. Select this option.
A window will pop up. The first box in the window is labeled Group Name and begins with an icon. Clicking the icon reveals a drop-down menu. Select the icon you want.Then type in a name.
You should use keywords and phrases in the name when you make a group on Facebook. When these phrases and words are entered in a search, your group could show up in the search engines.
For instance, if someone were searching for "how to make a group on Facebook" then your group could end up popping up.
The second box is for listing members. In this box you can type the beginning of the name of a friend you wish to invite. Facebook will then create a menu of all your friends whose names begin with that letter. You can scroll down and select the friends you want. If you invite the wrong friend, you can click the x next to their name and they will be deleted.
Next, choose your privacy settings. When you select the Open privacy option, the list of members and content of your group will be made public. When you select the Closed privacy option, members will remain public but the content will become private. With a Secret privacy selection, members and content will both be private. Press the Create button.
Another window will pop up. Select Okay. You will then go to the main page of your group. On the top right are two options: Edit Group and Edit Settings. Click on Edit Group. You will be redirected to a Basic Information page. This page allows you to assign an email and description to your group.
Under name and the list of members will be a line labeled Email Address. Click the Set Up Group Email button. A pop-up window will appear. Type in an email address. Emails sent to this address will be received by all members. Once you have created an email address, select the Create Email button. You will be taken back to the Basic Information page.
Your new email address should now show up in the line labeled Email Address. Under this line is a box labeled Description. Type information that you want others to know into this box. This description can be viewed by any other Facebook member unless the privacy setting is set to Secret. Click the Save Changes button. Then click the Back to Group option on the top right. You will go back to your groups main page. In the top right is an Edit Settings button. Click this.
A window will pop up. You can select when you wish to be notified of changes. In the drop-down menu following the title Notify me When, you can select if you want to be alerted to any comments or posts. Notifications will be sent to the email address associated with your Facebook account. If you want to change the email address, you can click the blue link titled Edit Your Notifications Settings.
The next option in the window allows you to select if the group will show up in home navigation or not, and how often. Finally, decide if you want to select the box titled Send me Group Chat Messages. If you do not select it you will not be sent messages. Then click the Save Settings box at the bottom of the pop-up window.
